Peer advisory groups
The Science Strategy Managers meet between Board meetings. The group comprises senior Crown Research Institute managers with responsibilities for science strategy, including relationships with central purchase agencies.
The Science Strategy Managers' Group is delegated tasks from time to time by the Board, and its meetings and actions are supported by the Science New Zealand office.
The group invites external visitors to meet with them from time to time, so as to complement the linkages established by the Board with a wide range of entities. The convenor is the senior manager from the Crown Research Institute providing that year's Science New Zealand Chair.
In addition, various other groups of Crown Research Institute managers meet from time to time. They arrange their own schedules - some meeting annually, quarterly or only when a specific matter arises. Meetings enable them to:
- Share insights and knowledge to assist in dealing with the common external stakeholders of the Crown Research Institutes.
- Share and develop best practice in their areas of operation.
- Research and develop positions or operational recommendations for the Science New Zealand Board on matters which the Board has requested, or a peer advisory group has identified as important.
- Meet with other stakeholders in the innovation system, or professionals in their interest area.
The groups include:
- Communicators
- Chief Financial Officers
- Human Resources Managers
- Librarians and Information Managers.
- Legal Advisers
- Information and communication technology managers.
Each group is headed by a convenor, usually from the same Crown Research Institute as the Board Chair. This arrangement ensures close coordination across all Crown Research Institutes and with the Board.
